Fisheries bylaws close next week

Feb 3, 2018 | Fishing, Te Arawa News

Our vision is that the Te Arawa taonga fishery is healthy, plentiful and sustainably managed, to ensure that our people have appropriate access to this fishery and that our tikanga and customary practices are promoted and recognised.” Tā Toby, Feb 2018.

The key considerations for Te Kōmiti Whakahaere in the development of the proposed freshwater fishery bylaws was the importance of iwi aspirations in managing our taonga species.

Management practices consistent with kaitakitanga, tikanga and kawa of Te Arawa, will ensure these fisheries for future generations, whilst providing for customary and cultural practices of Te Arawa.

The proposed bylaws are currently out for consultation and TALT encourages your participation. There are five proposed bylaws that cover Ngā Taonga Ika. Go to our Facebook Page for more information.
