Te Arawa Lakes Trust (TALT) PTE 2009

Te Arawa Lakes Trust (TALT) Private Training Establishment (PTE) delivers quality educational/vocational programmes and opportunities within a unique environment.  This supports one of TALT's long term visions of the promotion amongst Te Arawa of the educational, spiritual, economic, social and cultural advancement or well being of Te Arawa and its whänau as well as providing benefits and meeting some of the needs of the wider Rotorua district community.

  • TALT PTE offer a two year programme under the name of "He iti Kahikatoa", which includes gaining a National Certificate towards Employment Skills, Entry to the Automotive Trade at levels one and two. There is also an opportunity for students to gain their NCEA in Mathematics and English.
  • TALT PTE have extensive workplace networks within our more specialised automotive training plans that assist students to gain comprehensive on the job training knowledge increasing the chances of our students gaining employment or apprenticeships within the automotive field.
  • He Iti Kahikatoa is a training programme that has resources and qualified automotive tutors that have extensive work place experience in the automotive/mechanical/diesel/welding field
  • Tutors and staff are passionate about passing on their knowledge and wisdom.
  • Strength is maintained through believing in the well being and educational success of our students.

The course is free - there is no cost!

One of the strongest aspects of TALT is its connectedness to local iwi and to the local community.  TALT is seen as the local iwi provider and actively promotes Maori culture and identity.  However, TALT also encourages New Zealanders of all ethnicities to develop their skill base and assist them to finding employment or progressing on to further training.

Entry to the programme can be applied for at any stage by meeting the following criteria;

  • Aged 16 or 17
  • Aged 15 with MOE exemption
  • Birth certificate or passport
  • Low or no qualifications
  • Keen interest in automotive or gaining employment skills
  • Regular attendance

We offer an exciting, motivational, challenging programme delivered in a safe and holistic learning environment.

  • Level 1 & 2 in Automotive
  • Level 1 in Employment Skills, Units towards Level 2
  • NCEA Level 1 & Level 2
